Adult Strings Workshops – Exploring String Technique & Music Reading

Adult string players are welcome to join us for this casual class that explores string technique and music reading.  November classes will begin with a technique class refresher class for violin and viola players that hits on several mainstream technical aspects of playing the violin and viola. Topics addressed will be: Right hand bow and bowing exercises, left hand technique and exercises, and other topics on technique such as scales, keys, and rhythms. Note reading may be required during the refresher classes. The December classes will focus on orchestra reading sessions for all strings and will include exploration of a variety of musical styles in a rehearsal environment over the course of these sessions, including classical, folk or world music, flex music, seasonal and winter music, and more. All strings are welcome (violin, viola, cello, and bass). Music will be distributed on the dates and must be returned each evening.

Spring Valley Community Band for Adults

Do you love music? Are you looking for a fun, creative way to spend time with other adults who enjoy music? Are you black and blue from kicking yourself for quitting music lessons all those years ago? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the Spring Valley Community Band is for you!

The Spring Valley Band at Community Music School is a community band program for adults who have previous instrumental experience. All band instruments are welcome–flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, tuba, and percussion.

We are very excited to share that the Spring Valley Community Band program will be tuition free this year!  By making SVCB tuition free, we lower barriers to participation, making the program more accessible to seniors on a fixed income. When you register for SVCB you will see that the dates are for the entire school year, and the program fee of $340 reflects that. The community scholarship will be applied, and the fee will zero out at check out. You will just need to pay the annual $35 registration fee.

Did you miss out on the opportunity to learn a musical instrument when you were a child? CMS offers lessons for all ages on all instruments and voice. Please contact us to inquire about lessons at 610-489-3676 or info@cmsmusic.org and we will be happy to help you take that first step on your musical path!
