Music Enrichment Classes

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic many of our classes and ensembles have moved to a virtual format or are on hold for the Fall 2020 semester. Please contact us with any question or to inquire about classes and ensembles.

CMS offers a variety of classes and ensembles that are designed to encourage students to expand their music skills and knowledge. These classes and ensembles may be taken alone or in conjunction with private instrumental or vocal study. Students need not be enrolled in private study at CMS to participate in a class or ensemble. Fall 2020 classes and ensembles will be virtual.

  • Ensemble/Class Discount: 20% off the cost of ensembles/classes for students enrolled in private lessons
  • Registration is required. Contact the Registrar for more information or to register for a class or ensemble.

Virtual Musical Cabaret Workshop

Our Virtual Musical Cabaret camp is a fun and exciting opportunity for participants to shine on the virtual stage! Students will work on singing, acting, character development, costuming and props for a virtual showcase performances that family and friends can tune in to view. Everyone will have a chance to show their unique talents!

Strings Musicianship Skills – Virtual Class

  • Violin, Viola & Cello Students – Suzuki Book 3 & Above (or equivalent)
  • Instructors: Eric Coyne & Lorenzo Raval

We are excited to offer a weekly, virtual  Strings Skills Class that focuses on aural musicianship skills and opportunities for students to regularly perform. Topics include interval identification, scale-type identification, musical time-period identification, distinguishing whether an excerpt is in major and minor by its sound, rhythm-training, and sight-reading. Students are also encouraged to regularly perform pieces that they and their teachers deem as performance-ready.

Intro to Guitar – Virtual Class

  • Ages 10+
  • Instructor: Edele DeWees

Learn the basic mechanics of guitar playing from posture and holding the instrument to how to get a good sound. Students learn basic techniques of guitar playing including how to use a pick and strumming patterns. Different methods for reading music are also introduced including reading guitar tab, chords and note reading. Students are required to have their own instrument- classical, acoustic or electric with portable amp are all acceptable.

Beginner Ukulele – Virtual Class

  • Ages 10+

The ukulele is a great choice for students who have never picked up and instrument before or those looking to try out something new and fun! This class will help you get started with the `ukulele by learning basic chords and strums at a pace designed for first-time players. You’ll be surprised by how soon you’re playing songs while picking up core musical skills. Students should bring their own ‘ukulele to class along with a notebook, pencil and folder. Ages 10+ are welcome to join in the fun. Space is limited – sign up today!
