
Summer Instrumental & Vocal Lessons
The Summer Lesson Schedule runs from June 30 through August 8. Students may enroll for as many or few lessons as they like during this period, depending on instructor availability. Summer is a great time to try out new instruments or teachers, as scheduling is flexible. Summer lesson registration will open in May. Sing, move and make music with five wonderful days of nature exploration. Each day has its own theme with nature crafts & activities:

Come join the fun at Strings Camp!
Strings Camp offers violin, viola and cello students an opportunity to have a focused week of technique classes, Masterclasses, ensembles and string chamber orchestra. Full day students will also work in chamber music ensembles. There will be a final concert on Friday at 12noon.
Time: Half-Day 9am-12pm
Ages: 4-7

- Monday – The Pelican, a Most Remarkable Bird
- Tuesday – Harbor Seals
- Wednesday – Loggerhead Turtle
- Thursday – Speck, the Hermit Crab
- Friday – Sights and Sounds of the Sea

Ages: 10+
Pre-requisite: Students must have a minimum of two years playing experience on their instrument(s)
Cost: $375
A fun, week-long, interactive, summer day-camp program that encourages enthusiastic young musicians to explore and expand their interests in music through pop, rock, jazz, blues, funk and more. All instruments are welcome. Students will develop their “chops” through participation in the big band and present a final camp concert for family and friends on Friday of camp.

This exciting camp includes intensive rehearsals to increase critical flute skills such as counting, intonation, articulation, creating a beautiful tone, and injury prevention. This culminates in a flute choir concert on the final date. Music learned will include a variety of styles. Participants should be at an intermediate performance level or higher and be 18 years or older. Piccolo, alto flute, bass flute, and contra performers are welcome! Register by May 1st. Private lessons are available with the clinician for an extra fee.
Time: Monday-Friday Full Day 9am-3pm
Performances: Friday, July 31, 7PM & Saturday, August 1, 11AM. Each performer will receive 2 tickets to each performance, and additional seats will be sold prior.
Auditions: Materials will be sent prior to the start of camp.
Ages: 8-16
Cost: $650
Musical Theatre camp is a fun and exciting opportunity for students ages 8-16 to learn about vocal technique, character development, blocking and choreography. During this 2-week camp, students will work on music, choreography, staging and rehearsing for performances of Disney’s Newsies Jr. for their family and friends!
Disney’s Newsies Jr. is a timeless and powerful story filled with hope and ambition. When a top-notch newspaper publisher raises prices for newsboys’ delivery services, Jack Kelly jumps into action to rally newsies around the city to strike against them. The newsies soon learn they are stronger together as they create a movement to fight for what they deserve.

Director: Domenick Scudera, Director, is Professor of Theater at Ursinus College where he has been teaching acting, directing, and theater history since 1997. He has directed close to 50 plays and musicals at the college. Professionally, he has directed at theaters such as the Philadelphia Shakespeare Theater (where he was Resident Director), Delaware Theater Company, the Uptown Knauer Performing Arts Center, and Historic Philadelphia Inc. He has written and directed many shows with and for children, including American Attic, a play about American history that ran for many years at the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia.

Pre-requisite: Students should have completed Level 2 in the Faber & Faber, Alfred, or John Thompson method books, or their equivalent (Aaron method book Level 1 is also acceptable).
Cost: Half Day: $225
Piano students will have an opportunity for collaborative musicmaking with other pianists of similar skill and ages. Students will also work on developing musicianship skills, active listening, and accompaniment skills depending on age and ability. Campers will present a camp concert for family and friends on Friday of camp.
Summer Classes and Ensembles

The Spring Valley Band at Community Music School is a community band program for adults who have previous instrumental experience. All band instruments are welcome–flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, tuba, and percussion.

Spring Valley Community Band Summer Series rehearses on Tuesdays 7pm – 9pm, June 2-July 28, 2026.
School aged Musicians Grades 4 and up with at least one year of playing experience are welcome to join our summer band series at CMS! All band instruments are welcome–flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, tuba, and percussion. Band members will meet for a weekly rehearsal and prepare music for a final concert on July 28, 2026. There may be additional performance opportunities around the community depending on availability and scheduling.
