Harp Faculty

Ellen began to study pedal harp at he age of 8 in Vienna, Austria and graduated from Philadlphia College of the Performing Arts (now University of the Arts). Ellen teaches modern harp and lever (Celtic) harp and is an academic authority on the traditional Irish harp. A charter member of the Historical Harp Society she is well versed in the history and development of the instrument and has a wealth of early music and a collection of 13 harps. Known for a gentle and holistic style of teaching she will accept young children who can get their arms around a harp and help find rental instruments on which to get started. She has taught at Early Music Week at Pinewoods and is a frequent presenter at harp festivals where she leads harp ensembles for period dance and workshops in postural awareness and Alexander Technique at the harp. She is an active performer at Celtic festivals as a member of the duo "Jameson Sisters" and plays for 18th century dance groups in Philadelphia and Princeton in the band "The Lassbury Shrews". She has published collections of early music for harp solo and ensemble and has produced 6 CDs.
