Theory & Musicianship

CMS provides music theory classes for beginner to advanced students using the ABRSM curriculum. The aim of music theory study is to give students a thorough understanding of the building blocks of music, starting with basics of notes and rhythm to understanding harmony, counterpoint, composition, and a broad knowledge of composers, their works, structure, style and period.  Students can request a placement exam prior to registration to determine which level of the curriculum is the most appropriate.  Students may also enroll in private lessons for music theory or composition.
