KinderFlute | Community Music School

KinderFlute® at CMS is for children ages 5-9 (rising K- 3). Parents/Caregivers attend a weekly group classes with their child and help with practicing at home.

KinderFlute® is designed to teach students to love music and learn to play the flute—but that is only the beginning!

  • KinderFlute® teachers have an intense desire to see each child realize their potential in all areas of their lives.
  • Through learning to listen, finger, produce a beautiful tone, read music, compose, and creatively express themselves.
  • Learning materials are colorful, child-centric and inviting.
  • Group lessons are carefully planned to maximize learning potential.
  • Movement and games are a major component in the group classes so that students maintain a keen sense of alertness.
  • Many of the tenets of the class are based on recent research in neurogenesis and learning potential.

KinderFlute Faculty

Jocelyn Crosby, Flute & Piccolo

Jocelyn Crosby is a flute soloist and freelance artist in the Lancaster region and has performed for over 20 years. One of her greatest joys is helping children and adults learn how to play the flute for their own enjoyment or career interests. Her style of teaching is highly individualized to help students meet their goals while playing music they love. Ms. Crosby was a 2021 scholarship recipient for the international Galway Flute Festival and was featured on the WHYY House Concert Series. Ms. Crosby is a graduate of Temple University, having earned her Master of Music degree. Ms. Crosby has taught flute lessons for over a decade, including at the Lancaster Conservatory of Music and out of her home studio. Ms. Crosby joined the CMS Faculty in 2021.
