SUMMARY:CMS Faculty Artists Present “Impressionism in Music”
DESCRIPTION:Impressionism in music was a movement among composers in Western classical music\, mainly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries\, whose music focuses on suggestion and atmosphere\, “conveying the moods and emotions aroused by the subject rather than a detailed tone picture”. “Impressionism” is a philosophical and aesthetic term borrowed from late 19th century French painting after Monet’s Impression\, Sunrise. Composers were labeled impressionists by analogy to the impressionist painters who use starkly contrasting colors\, effect of light on an object\, blurry foreground and background\, flattening perspective\, etc. to make the observer focus his attention on the overall impression. \nCMS faculty artists will perform pieces by some of the key forerunners of the impressionist era including works by Debussy\, Raval and Satie. Audiences can expect to hear a variety of instrumental and vocal music that represents this fascinating period of music and art.

DESCRIPTION:Friday July 20- Summer Movies in the Lawn: Ursinus College. Alessandra Gabbianelli\, CMS Voice Faculty\, will perform songs from Moanna at 7:30 pm before the screening of the movie. \nArea residents and their families are invited to spend three Friday evenings during the summer on Ursinus College’s front lawn for free movie screenings\, live music\, and food and refreshments provided by local food trucks.”Movies on the Lawn” is presented through a partnership of Ursinus College with the Collegeville Economic Development Corporation (CEDC). \nThe movies are: “Sing” on June 29\, “Moana” on July 20\, and “Coco” on August 17. \nFamilies are invited to bring their own chairs and blankets and begin arriving at 7 p.m. to enjoy food\, live music and entertainment.The movies will begin at dusk between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. In the event of rain\, the movies will be screened in Olin Auditorium on the Ursinus College campus.
