SUMMARY:Carnatic Vocal Concert by Sandeep Narayan
DESCRIPTION:Sandeep Narayan is regarded as one of the leading vocalists of Carnatic music today. He had his initial training from his mother\, Smt. Shubha Narayan\, and at the age of 11\, took a\nbreak from his academic education to undergo advanced training from the revered musicologist\, Calcutta Shri K.S. Krishnamurthy in Chennai\, India. After Shri Krishnamurthy\npassed away in 1999\, Sandeep began learning from Sangitha Kalanidhi Shri Sanjay Subrahmanyan. In 2006\, Sandeep broke boundaries by being the first US born and raised musician to\nmove to India to take up music as a full-time career\, a trend that is now followed by many other aspiring musicians. In 2019\, the Government of India’s Sangeet Natak Akademi awarded Sandeep with the\nthe prestigious title\, “Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar.” He is also the recipient of the title “Isai Peroli” from Kartik Fine Arts\, “Shanmukha Sangeetha Shiromani” from Sri Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Sabha\, Mumbai\, “Kala Ratna” from the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana\, the Yuva Purandara Award from Indranagar Sangeeth Sabha\, Bangalore\, the Best Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi Award from The Music Academy Madras\, and the Best Concert & Vocalist Awards from The Music Academy Madras five years consecutively. Sandeep has been an ‘A’ Grade artiste with All India Radio\, Chennai since 2010. Having performed extensively all over the world including concert tours of Australia\, Canada\, England\, Germany\, Oman\, Singapore\, Sri Lanka\, United Arab Emirates and the United States of America\, Sandeep hopes to continue serving as a cultural link between Carnatic music and audiences worldwide.  Tickets $15-$35 and available at https://www.sruti.org/events/

DESCRIPTION:As part of Montco Jazz Fest\, CMS is pleased to welcome back Steinway Artist\, Terry Klinefelter after her beautiful performance on our 2018 holiday concert featuring Vince Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown Christmas with the Pennsylvania Philharmonic. Dr. Terry Klinefelter is a versatile artist\, at home in jazz clubs as well as the classical concert stage. She has performed at the Kimmel Center\, the Philadelphia Fringe Festival\, the Chadds Ford Winery Jazz Festival\, Jazz at the Springs\, Endless Mountain Music Festival\, and the Arcady Festival (Bar Harbor\, Maine). Known for her lyrical style and beautiful sound\, she has also performed on the Philadelphia Orchestra Chamber Music Series and abroad in Mexico (Escuela Superior\, Monterrey) and Italy (Rome Festival). Past engagements include Chester County Pops and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra\, where she currently serves as keyboardist. Terry’s debut trio CD\, Simple Gifts was described by the Philadelphia Inquirer as “on the cosmic cusp where Mozart might meet Mingus.” Her 2013 release\, Zingaro\, features original jazz compositions and standards reached #30 on the national jazz radio charts\, and was featured on Radio WRTI’s “Hot 11” Countdown for several months. DESCRIPTION:Come meet our KinderFlute teacher\, Jocelyn Crosby and learn about the KinderFlute program at CMS. \nKinderFlute® is designed to teach students to love music and learn to play the flute—but that is only the beginning! KinderFlute teachers have an intense desire to see each child realize their potential in all areas of their lives. Through learning to listen\, finger\, produce a beautiful tone\, read music\, compose\, and creatively express themselves; students are firing areas of the brain to make learning in all areas more productive Learning materials are colorful\, child-centric and inviting. The group lessons are carefully planned to maximize learning potential. Movement and games are a major component in the group classes so that students maintain a keen sense of alertness. Many of the tenets of the class are based on recent research in neurogenesis and learning potential. \nKindeFlute at CMS is for children ages 5-8 (rising Kindergarteners through Grade 2). The program includes a weekly individual lesson and group class. Parents/Caregivers attend lessons and classes with their child and help with practicing at home. Lessons are scheduled through the CMS Registrar and group class is on Thursdays at 5-5:45pm.
