Program Overview

Milestones In Music Infants sessionAt Milestones In Music and Community Music School, we believe that music education should be a fun and joyful experience for children.  The importance of music in the overall development of the young child has been proven in numerous studies.  We are proud to provide one of the most advanced, age-appropriate children’s music curriculum for newborns through preschoolers.

The Studio program of Milestones in Music will introduce your child to a musical world filled with singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, sound identification, instrument exploration and creative movement.  We will pair music with expressive language, storytelling, peer interaction, movement and pretend play for a enjoyable musical experience.

As your child grows, we will continue the musical journey with pressure-free musical learning that includes exposure to various types of multicultural music.  We will explore vocal development, rhythm, notation, musical symbols and weekly exposure to a wide range of age-appropriate instruments.

Winter Semester Classes

Weather is the theme for our Winter Classes.

"Whether the weather is hot; whether the weather is not; we'll weather the weather whatever the weather, whether we like it or not!"  From tissue snowflakes, to a cactus rain stick, to that fun old "Mr Sun", we will spend the twelve weeks of our Winter Semester enjoying the 'Weather'! Our Winter Semester classes begin February 2nd at CMS.

Your involvement is important to your child.  Each week you will receive an e-mail from Milestones In Music reminding you of the classroom activities and the learning objectives for that week. A CD containing the fun, original music used in the "Weather" class is included with your tuition.

Spring & Summer Classes

Our Spring Semester theme will be "Let's Play" in our Music & Movement classes. Amazing, original songs are awaiting us as we enjoy this fun theme.  Our Spring Semester Young Musicians theme will be a "Rhythm Camp".  We will spend weeks exploring fun rhythm patterns with BoomWackers, Sound Shapes and a whole room of percussion instruments. Classes run May 1 - June 19.  Rhythm camp runs May 15-June 19.

Our Summer Semester theme is "Music Around the World" for our Music & Movement classes.  Each age group will explore various ethnic and cultural music within their own development level.  Our Young Musicians will be enjoying an "Instrument Camp".  Each week we will explore a new instrument family with private teachers of various instruments visiting our classrooms. We will also enjoy learning a very unique instrument and end our summer forming our own Celtic band!  Classes run July 10-August 14.

Class Descriptions

Infants Class
Milestones In Music Infants ClassAge range: 3 months to 18 months
Class size: 10 students with caregiver
Class length: 45 minutes weekly

Parents often ask, “What kind of music can you teach my baby?” Our answer is, “We do not ‘teach’ your baby music, but rather use music to help your baby develop and be nurtured to the BEST of their abilities!” Babies instinctively react to music! Our Infant classes are filled with playful musical activities that encourage the baby and parent/caregiver to bond. By incorporating floor and lap activities, action songs, rhymes, lullabies and dances, our classes help develop listening and motor skills, enhance language development and sense of balance and timing. Our classes increase a child’s natural curiosity about music, and provide a model for the parent to help the baby understand the importance of musical play in daily life. These classes are held weekly for 45 minutes with parent/caregiver present.

Preschoolers are ready and able to explore a new level of musical learning, but are often not quite ready to leave behind their parent or caregiver. This class is a perfect win-win schedule for your Preschooler. Caregivers join us for the first 15 minutes of each class. During this time we will explore creative movement, rhythm and dance activities. Caregivers are then excused for the remaining 30 minutes of our class. The portion of the class without caregivers is our time to embrace ourselves as active, energetic, enthusiastic and imaginative Preschoolers! We will experience socialization, sharing and participating in group activities. Singing will become a focus for enhancing the Preschooler’s vocal development, as their expressive language is just beginning to emerge. Musical pretend play activities integrated with music, storytelling, movement and literature will encourage cognitive and literacy skills, creativity and individuality as well as musical readiness. These classes are held weekly for 45 minutes with parent/caregiver present during the first 15 minutes of each class.
