Dear CMS Families and Friends:

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” – Plato

I have spent my life playing, singing, and appreciating music. For the past eight years I have had the honor to be a board member for a great school that offers each child the opportunity to find and nurture their musical talents. Music has always been the part of me that keeps me moving forward, that inspires, and helps me to be creative. The Community Music School is committed to keeping music in our hearts and minds, but this is only possible through the support of our families and the community.
As we close our 25th year of music education, we could not be more excited about where we are today, and all that we have accomplished with your support. In this last year alone, CMS faculty taught 15,383 individual music lessons; over 500 group classes or ensembles; and five week-long summer camps. CMS students were accepted by audition to participate in the Philadelphia Sinfonia, Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, Delaware County Youth Orchestra, and Youth Orchestra of Bucks County; as well as the PMEA District, Regional and State Choral, Band and Orchestra festivals.
CMS hosted nearly 70 separate events during the year, with more than 4,000 music lovers attending student recitals, Bach’s Lunch concerts, Little Night Music concerts, Strings, Piano and Voice Festivals and our annual student fundraiser – Performathon.  A majority of CMS events are free and open to the community. The school also increased collaborations with other community organizations, providing new performance opportunities for students and new revenue sources for the school, including the Spring Valley YMCA, Royersford Library, Perkiomen Valley Art League, The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, The Trappe 300 Anniversary Committee, The Goddard School of Collegeville and the Perkiomen Valley School District.
As we look forward, we are adding several new programs to our growing curriculum, including Musikgarten, an early childhood music program for kids 18 months- 7 years old; New Horizons Band, a group music program for adult beginners through advanced players; and innovative collaborative camps for the summer. We continue to add new talented faculty members in instruments such as piano, violin and bassoon to provide excellence in music education. The CMS community concert series continues to evolve in exciting ways: this year features performances ranging from an Oktoberfest event to Sitar, classical piano, jazz, Impressionism in Music and student showcase concerts. And to ensure all students have access to music education and the many enrichment opportunities CMS offers, we continue to offer financial assistance and scholarships, giving more than $10,000 again this year.
Music gives us purpose and breathes life into humanity but, it can’t happen without financial support for instruments, facilities and staff. We need your help to continue the melody in our hearts and help give our students the ability to touch lives throughout the world through music. I hope you will join me in supporting the 2017-2018 annual fund campaign. No donation is too small and, in this time of giving, we welcome you to become part of our symphony.
